M-CANís "M-Plan" Team Forum
Wednesday, Sept. 16

New Energy Economy Forum
By special invitation only, over fifty innovative leaders in Montezuma and Dolores Counties are invited to participate in a synergistic Energy Forum September 16. The event has been planned by the M-PLAN Committee and is co-sponsored by the Governorís Energy Office, Ecosphere and the Montezuma County Economic Development Council.

The forumís agenda includes seven local speakers who will share projects they have planned or initiated. The focus of discussion will be possibilities within the scope of the new renewable Energy Economy initiatives. A possible outcome of the meeting will be a commitment from participants to create a partnership that will bring present county organizations together in an innovative way to leverage funding for conservation, efficiency and renewable energy projects.

Planners of the Forum
The Committee of M-CANers planning the Forum are taking a strategic view of M-CANís mission which is to "utilize education and collaboration to engage the entire Montezuma community in a climate action plan that will result in a cumulative greenhouse gas reduction of 20% by the year 2015 and ensure a sustainable, secure future for ourselves and future generations."

This Committee plans to provide input to the Montezuma County Planning and Zoning Commission once it begins the task of updating the Land Use Plan and Code. Care to join with Jimbo Buickerood, Tami Graham, Betsy Harrison, Jodi Foran (with the guidance of Susan Thomas) in this effort? Contact us at and let us know.

M-CANís "350" Gathering

Saturday, Oct. 24

Everyone is invited to join the M-CAN "350" gathering including group photo forming the letters 350 followed by a bike/hike parade in the area around the Cortez Rec Center and then refreshments.

Gather to hike or bike at 10 am at the Rec Center amphitheater (between the Rec Center and the pond). A "350" (maybe aerial) photo will be taken at 10:15. We encourage participants to bring their own "350" signs and t-shirts, even wear costumes if you want. A hike or bike parade will be followed by refreshments.

We will be one of thousands of gatherings (or "actions") worldwide publicizing the need to reduce atmospheric CO2 to 350ppm. Our group photo will be among many from all parts of the world displayed on the website.

M-CAN Needs Your Funding!!

Verde Fest was a huge success and more than met the expectations of its organizing committee. THANKS to all who participated! In addition to your participation at M-CAN events, please consider writing a check to M-CAN, PO Box 1513, Cortez, CO 81321. For tax deductable contributions, make checks out to "SJRC&D/M-CAN". If each family could support us with a ten dollar check weíd have major participation that we can highlight when applying for grants. Anything will help.

Boot strapping ourselves financially has been a challenge the past two years. The organization thanks you in advance for your financial support, too!
